So, how does font licensing work? When you purchase a font, you are purchasing the right to use that font for a specific use (such as on a website, in an eBook or on packaging). If you need to use the font across multiple platforms or for different uses, you may need multiple licenses to cover each of those uses.
Which license is right for you? Take a look at the license options below. If you're not quite sure or you have questions, feel free to get in touch or view the FAQs.
*If you require use on more than one computer, purchase the number of licenses equal to the number of computers the font will be installed on.

Other licenses
High Volume Commercial
A High Volume Commercial License is required when the number of individual static instances exceeds 1,000,000. An 'instance' refers to each individual image, asset, unit or end product that the font appears on (for example: each individual social media post, PDF, book cover, product package, billboard or clothing label is an instance).
Please get in touch for any High Volume Commercial license enquiries.
Unlimited Commercial
If you require the freedom of no limits on your licenses, you may need an Unlimited Commercial license.
This can over desktop, website or even app licenses. You can customise your license to have unlimited users / workstations, unlimited channels, unlimited pageviews or unlimited end products.
Please get in touch for any Unlimited Commercial license enquiries.
Server
A Server license is required to install the font on a server that will allow users to generate products such as PDFs, invoices, business cards using the font. The fonts can not be distributed or downloaded from the server by the user.
The server license does not cover making the font available to users within SaaS applications (such as Figma or Canva) and a custom license is required for such.
The server license does not cover print-on-demand applications where the user can use the font to print and / or sell products with the intent to resell those products.
Please get in touch for any Server License enquiries.
Broadcast/Streaming
A Broadcast/Streaming license allows you to use the font to create film/video or graphics for television, movies, streaming, video games, social media or public exhibition such as digital billboards.
Please get in touch for any Broadcast/Streaming license enquiries.
Multi-licenses and custom agreements
Any of the aforementioned licenses can be tailored to your specific needs with a custom license. The specific licensing terms will be outlined in your custom contract.
If your project requires multiple users (usually 5+) or licenses across a number of platforms, we can help with a custom multi-license quote. When you organise your custom agreement with Typeheist, we offer a volume discount for eligible quotes.
Use the licensed font for personal and commercial purposes, under the allowances of each license
Purchase an additional license if you require the font for other uses or your usage exceeds your existing license
Get in contact about High Volume Commercial, Broadcast/Streaming or custom licenses.
Do not:
Resell the original fonts (purchasing on behalf of a client is allowed)
Resell any modification of the asset on its own
Make the font public or share the font in any way that allows others to download, extract, or redistribute
Convert font files to other formats
Use the font for purposes outside of your license
Upon purchasing a font you are granted a non-exclusive and non-transferable license to use the TYPEHEIST font(s) in accordance with the following licensing terms and conditions. You may not exceed the scope of the purchased license.
Can I create a logo from a font?
Yes - under the Desktop license you can create a logo from a font. The only limitation is you cannot use a dingbat to create a logo where the primary image is the dingbat. E.g. a smiley face character from the font.
Do I need a separate license for subdomains?
Yes - you will need one webfont license per domain or subdomain. For example dogs.company.com will require a separate license to cats.company.com.
What is an instance / end product?
An 'instance' refers to each individual image, asset, unit or end product that the font appears on. For example, each individual social media post, PDF, book cover, product package, billboard or clothing label is an instance.
Can I make a backup of the font file?
You can save a backup of the font file, however you cannot make it publicly accessible or available to others.
I'm in a band - what license do I need?
If you are using the font to create and sell assets such as album art or merch, you will need a Desktop License.
If the number of end products exceeds 250,000 units, you will require a Desktop Commercial license.
